Celebrated my 60th birthday at this cosy and welcoming haven. Enjoyed lovely walks amidst turbulent but spectacular weather! Had lovely fish lunch at the Witch Ball and generally pottered around this lovely area. Only saw 1 badger (we think it was the same one!) but enjoyed watching him/her. Thank you Gary for wine and advice. - Via in-property guestbook
We have had a lovely stay in the cottage and have been very lucky with the weather. Would recommend the walk to Kynance Cove, the cream teas at Mullion Chocolate factory cafe and of course Ann’s pasties. Go to Frenchman’s creek near Helford if you can, a beautiful place and the highlight of our week. Unfortunately we didn’t beat the badger record and the most we saw in one night was 3! Hopefully be back again soon. PS Thanks for your help Gary. - Via in-property guestbook
We have stayed on and around the Lizard many times before. During which we had passed “ Grandad’s Cottage” many times and thought what would it be like to stay there. So on this visit to the Lizard here we are. It lived up to what we jad imagined cosy, quiet and it is a great location. But we did not allow for the added company of the BADGERS, Thanks to Gary for his advice on how to feed and what they liked most. They came every night without fail around 7.00 -7.30 1st sitting and 10-10.30 second sitting and they are amazing creatures in their own rite. Took some great pictures to dine every last nut and raisin. They love peanuts, raisins, and small dog biscuits! In any amount. - Via in-property guestbook
Enjoyed our stay, cottage was well equipped and comfortable. Great walks along the coast in glorious sunshine, everywhere you turn there are spectacular views along the coastal path. If you do one walk, go along the cliffs to Cadgwith. It wont take long and you will be deeply rewarded. Lizard Village is surprisingly well stocked and gary has been a great help for places to go and other useful advice, thanks Gary! Badgers have been arriving each evening around 9.15pmk, I can confirm they like the pasties (more than us). There were 4 badgers on the final night. This has been a lovely (and romantic ) holiday. Gyinyoru taj, gyonyoru nyaralas! - Via in-property guestbook
Lovely location and cottage. Badgers were entertaining. Four on our last night! - Via in-property guestbook
We have had a wonderful week. Very relaxing the Polpeo Cafe was excellent value for money, lovely food, lovely view you can take your own wine! We had good food in the Witch’s Ball. We would have liked more of a break but we saw Praa Sands which was lovely. And I loved the Badgers that came at half nine every night. - Via in-property guestbook
Had a wonderful stau as usual. This is our 5th stay at Grandad’s Cottage and enjoy staying in this cosy cottage but most of all we love seeing the Badgers every night (most nights all 4 of them ) . Hopefully back again soon. X - Via in-property guestbook
... Es war sehr schön hier und das beste waren die Dachse! - Via in-property guestbook
Cant put into words how great this week has been , wish we could stay longer. Within 5 hours we had seen swallows, tawny owl, bats and then between 9.30 and 10.30 (please feed them!) the badgers, mostly 3, but tonight Friday there were four. Best to bring in bowl at night. Cant believe how close we get, just a pane of glass between us. The cottage is fantastic, the back garden, so secluded and a real suntrap. And tonight we were enchanted by church bells. Can it get any better? Gary is brilliant and can advise you on good places to eat. Gunwalloe beach our fav for swimming and body boarding. Who needs to go for walks, this cottage is brilliant. P.S. Dear Holiday makers. Will be back again, so please don’t book next June. Thanks Diana. - Via in-property guestbook
Fantastic holiday... again! Lovely cottage and top garden. Fabulous weather (until Friday) and fabulous walking. Badgers came every night. Did all the wonderful walks around the Lixard Peninsula. Highlights for outings out are the Housel Bay Hotel and Mullion Cove Hotel restaurants. Our third stay at the Lizard and hopefully the 4th visit will be next year! Thank you. - Via in-property guestbook
We have enjoyed our stay in this wonderful cottage. A great base for exploring the Lizard and beyond. Highlights included walking the coastal paths to Kynance and Cadgwith, hiring a boat at St Anthony and going up the Helford to the ferry boat Inn for a great lunch, using the park and float at Falmouth and making the trip to St Mawes. We had great weather for the week (despite the forecast) apart from the day we visited Minack Theatre. Spectacular and outstanding show made more impressive by the actors letting the show go on despite the heavy rain! Don’t miss Housel Bay as you will often have it to yourself. Thought the cottage facilities were excellent and the badgers were on time every night. Great Trip. - Via in-property guestbook
2nd visit to the cottage. Lovely location, weather been good. Visited Trebah and Trevane Gardens, both very good. Poldhu Cove and Coverac k nice quiet beaches and worth a visit. Fish and chips from Smugglers in the Lizard Village good. Four badgers seen on night one. Following nights just seen two. Mice spotted pinching badger food one night. The Lizard is our favourite part of Cornwall, always worth coming back to. - Via in-property guestbook
Wonderful relaxing week in this lovely cottage, enjoyed great lunches at Mullion meadows and the Hazelphron Inn both highly recommended, thanks to Gary for introducing us to the local badger clan also the performing mice. I am sure that we will return again. - Via in-property guestbook
A nice week in a good cottage. Dawn chorus is brilliant (early though). Windy most of the week with odd bits of sunshine. A couple of days on the beach at Poldu and Church Cove. Gunwalloe, nice evening walks. The local fish from Fish and Chip shop at Lizard was great, haddock was very good. The badgers are amazing to watch from right up against the window. The two mice who try to get in on the act are so funny to watch as well. - Via in-property guestbook
Wow!! What a wonderful cottage and a perfect location. Our personal highlights were the coastal walks towards Kynance Cove and Cadgwith Cove. A trip to Minnack Open air theatre a total one off experience! We also loved a drive to Helford River (hard to find) and took the water taxi to the Mermaid Inn – Great. The badgers are a wonderful end of the day treat about 9.50pm for us – and they eat anything and everything! We will certainly be back soon to the Lizard. Enjoy as much as we have!! - Via in-property guestbook
Enjoyed our stay. Cottage clean and comfortable. Fed the Badgers at night came up to the window lovely to see. Watch out for dogs as they can attack the Badgers. Thank you. - Via in-property guestbook
Just got back form the lovely place as it is Church Cove , The Lizard- Grandad's Cottage offered us probably one of the best stay in this part of Cornwall . We had a blast site seing ( seal sanctuary, Eden Project , Lizard Lighthouse , Ice Cream factory , St Michael Mount, all the beautiful gardens ...and tones more. So much to see and never enough time ... seals, cammels, badgers ( on your doorsteps - don't forget to feed them :) ) , kows , sheep, hears, God knows what else a part from lovely people and beautiful views. Accomodation a lot more than we had expected ...cosy and so nice ....We will deffinitely go back !! even this year ...
Just experienced our second stay at this wonderful cosy cottage amidst the countryside and also right next to stunning coast path. Home from home facilities .Nightly visits from the badgers. Coffee on the veranda in the morning sun watching the world go by and afternoon tea in the sun in the garden. A short stroll to restaurents with magnificent sea views. We will be back.
2nd visit for us, and same time of year. Once again a relaxing peaceful break in thes cosy cottage amidst beautiful countryside. Think we broke the record for Badgers visiting ~(8.05pm) four all at once! News must have leaked that we were dishing up chips and left over Anne’s Rock cakes. Lovely walk to Cadgwith and lunch at the ‘Cellars’ – gorgeous crab soup and lovely fresh tuna baguette. Trebah gardens worth a visit via the ferry across Helford Passage – Thank you Phil, Jennie and Gary. - Via in-property guestbook
Our fourth visit to this lovely cottage. Had another fantastic week, fed the badgers wevery evening at 7.30 – 8pm. Walked the cliff path to Lizard Point, and Kynance Cove. Recommend food at Housel Bay Hotel and the Cadgwith Cove Inn. Thank you Gary for the warm welcome as always and the wine. - Via in-property guestbook
Second time back to this lovely cottage for a peaceful break. Managed some lovely walks around the coastline. Fed the Robin again in the garden with mealworms, which I’m sure he likes. Drove to Gunwalloe, had lunch in the Halzephron pub which was lovely, also sampled some of Anne’s pasties again – lovely crab sandwiches at Lizard cafe, drinks in the local pub on the village green which was ffantastic with the open fire. We just love Church Cove, wish we could live here forever – also been to view the construction of the new lifeboat station (very interesting). Most of all like to say thank you to Gary for introducing us to the badgers, they are a joy to watch every night. They especially like Anne’s pasties, also pork/lamb chops. We’ve taken some great photos. Thank you Gary for the wine. I’m sure we will be back for a third visit. - Via in-property guestbook
Our fourth visit to Grandad’s Cottage and really don’t want to leave. As always a wonderful week and seeing up to four Badgers a night was just amazing! We’ll be back again to this lovely cosy cottage next year! - Via in-property guestbook
Our second visit to this delightful cottage, although only a short break this time, had wonderful weather, good walking. Just what you need to recharge the batteries. - Via in-property guestbook
Fantastic holiday, cottage was beautiful and seeing the badgers a real bonus. - Via in-property guestbook
Lovely cottage, very well equipped + perfect for exploring South + West Cornwall. Fantastic to see the badgers every night + thanks to Gary who was helpful + friendly. Lost Gardens of Heligan well worth a trip as is exploring the costal path from Cadgwith to Kynance Cove - Via in-property guestbook
We’ve had a great week here. The cottage is lovely and in a beautiful setting. We’ve done lots of coastal walks, been to Mullion and St Ives, then returned to our hideaway! Loved seeing the badgers every night. - Via in-property guestbook
Wonderful cottage, lovely position – saw badgers every evening – what a bonus!! Will be back! - Via in-property guestbook
A lovely week in Grandad’s. Did the Helford walk (walk 7 in the walks book) and found South Cafe in Monaccan. Very good food in a delightful garden – recommended. The badger likes Ann’s pasties! - Via in-property guestbook
A wonderful cottage and a fantastic holiday! Plenty of spectacular walks and places to eat. The badgers came every night between 9.45 and 10.30pm. Thank you Gary for the excellent advice regarding the local pasties! We don't want to go home - I think that says it all. - Via in-property guestbook
Had a wonderful time. The cottage is extremely comfortable. Scenery spectacular. People friendly. Badgers fascinating. What more could anyone ask for? - Via in-property guestbook
Once again we have enjoyed our stay here. Lovely weather - have seen basking sharks and seals in the bays near here. Have fed the badgers each night and left dog biscuits for them. Can recommend the Witches Ball for food, Ann's pasties and Sue's farm cream teas (on A3083 opp Lizard Cider Barn). - Via in-property guestbook
Once again a wonderful week at Grandads. If you enjoy nature this is the place to be (Church Cove). The badgers call here at 9.45ish (pm) and they love peanuts. Three youngsters and apparently a large scarred one although he was not here this week. Shark and seals sighted along with many very friendly birds. The house is very comfortable as usual and getting out of the cosy bed in the morning is a struggle. We recommend a very enjoyable walk from Helford to French Man's Creek and of course there are plenty of costal paths to explore here. - Via in-property guestbook
Despite very mixed weather that led to dry walks often becoming very wet, windy and cold we had a fantastic week. The cottage is perfect - warm, cosy and welcoming: peaceful in the extreme - you become attuned to every sound - owls hooting, badgers snuffling, birds singing, ducks quacking, cattle mooing, wind blowing - oh, and the fog horn doing whatever foghorns do! It's wonderful to go for a walk and not here the distant hum of the M25! Beautiful flowers - daffodils, camillia, hyacinths, so far ahead of Surrey we finally feel that Spring is here. Best things: - Walk to Lizard Point and have a fresh crab sandwich Any of the coast paths Soup and cake at "Colrodger" deli Mullion Superb special meal "kota" in Porthleven (Asian/Pacific) Walk from Helfod to French Man's Creek then lunch at "Down by the Riverside" Walk to or at Kynance Cove Lost Gardens of Heligan Coast cafe in Lizard Ann's pasties in the Lizard - Via in-property guestbook
Grandad's Cottage is a lovely holiday cottage, extremely well equipped and has a beautiful peaceful garden to the rear.
