The cove is famous as the place from which the first transatlantic radio signals was sent in 1901. Without the experiments and work carried out by Marconi at Poldhu, wireless communications would still be in their relative infancy.
The remains of the long-defunct Poldhu Wireless Station are visible along a beautiful, yet rugged cliff top and within age-old stone walls that surround a cow pasture. However, there is the Marconi Centre which is used by Poldhu Amateur Radio enthusiasts, open to the public.
