The small village of Porthtowan lies on Cornwall's north Atlantic coast and is a popular summer holiday destination with neighbouring beach towns of St. Agnes and Perranporth in easy reach.

Its history is associated with mining and one of its most prominent buildings is a former engine house which has been converted for residential use. It is also within walking distance by National Trust coastal walks to nearby Chapel Porth, Wheal Coates, Trevaunce Cove and St. Agnes.

In recent years, Porthtowan has become one of the UK's top surfing beaches, bordered by white sand and rolling dunes. There is a large car park leading to the beach, along with a number of shops, cafes and bars. One of the most popular bars with both locals and tourists is the Blue Bar. The Blue Bar is situated just at the edge of the beach and provides a relaxed atmosphere in which to have a drink, some great food and soak up the live music.
