Lizard Lighthouse is positioned at the Southern-most tip of mainland Britain and the six newly refurbished adjacent cottages enjoy unrivalled access to breathtaking scenery and coastal walking, literally from the front door. Rare birds, rare flowers and even the occasional school of dolphins can be spotted from the cliff tops surrounding the accommodation, yet you are just a ¼ mile from Lizard village with its friendly pub, shops and restaurants.
The working lighthouse was established in 1619, with the current towers being built in 1752. In 1924 it became the first electrically powered lighthouse before being fully automated in 1998 with a 26 mile light range and an automatic 3 mile fog signal if conditions are misty.
The on-site visitor centre provides tours of the working lighthouse and an opportunity to learn about the work of Trinity House (the number of visitors will not normally affect your privacy). 'Longships' is the second of the six cottages and features two bedrooms, a double and a twin, both with excellent sea views.
Entered from the enclosed courtyard into the spacious hallway with original slate floor and plenty of room for coats and boots. Off the hallway to the one side is the well-equipped kitchen with electric oven, 4-ring hob with extractor over, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washer/dryer and microwave. Further on is the family bathroom with matching toilet, sink and bath with shower over, heated towel rail and extractor.
Off the hallway to the other side is the lounge with sea views, comfy seating for four, LCD TV (with Freeview) and DVD player. Separate Dining room with sea views, dining table and chairs. Upstairs are two bedrooms, one with double bed and one with 3' twin beds, both with good sea views, wardrobes, bedside tables and lamps.
Seating is provided in the small courtyard. Parking is provided for one car. Rental includes bedlinen, towels, electricity, central heating, cot and high chair (if required). One dog accepted by prior arrangement at £25 per week. Regret no smoking. Children must be supervised at all times.

Just had a wonderful week at the lizard lighthouse. A fantastic and very comfortable place to stay with first class accommodation for 4 people. The only negative was the foghorn but it only stayed on for one whole night during the week.
Longships on 25/05/2008
We have just come back from a lovely week staying at Longships. We were amazed at the size of the cottage. There is so much room for four people. It certainly was one of the best cottages we have stayed in.
The area is beautiful. Quiet, but not far from the shops and lovely walks along the clifftops. We would definitely recommend. A slight minus is the foghorn if there is any fog, but we had our earplugs supplied and once we had these on there was no problem. J. Henman.
