Lizard Lighthouse is positioned at the Southern-most tip of mainland Britain and the six newly refurbished adjacent cottages enjoy unrivalled access to breathtaking scenery and coastal walking, literally from the front door. Rare birds, rare flowers and even the occasional school of dolphins can be spotted from the cliff tops surrounding the accommodation, yet you are just a ¼ mile from Lizard village with its friendly pub, shops and restaurants.
The working lighthouse was established in 1619, with the current towers being built in 1752. In 1924 it became the first electrically powered lighthouse before being fully automated in 1998 with a 26 mile light range and an automatic 3 mile fog signal if conditions are misty.
The on-site visitor centre provides tours of the working lighthouse and an opportunity to learn about the work of Trinity House (the number of visitors will not normally affect your privacy). 'Round Island' is the largest of the Lighthouse Cottages having four bedrooms and three toilets/bathrooms (one en suite). With a large enclosed yard and a spacious breakfast kitchen as well as a bespoke dining room, it is the perfect location for an extended or larger family.
Entered from the large enclosed courtyard into the spacious hallway with original slate floor and plenty of room for coats and boots. Off the hallway to the one side is the well-equipped breakfast kitchen with electric oven, 4-ring hob with extractor over, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washer/dryer, microwave and dining table with chairs. Further is the ground floor twin bedroom, with en suite shower room with matching toilet, sink and separate shower cubicle, heated towel rail and extractor.
Off the hallway is the family bathroom with matching toilet, sink and bath with shower over, heated towel rail and extractor fan. There is also an additional separate toilet on the ground floor. Lounge with sea views, comfy seating for eight, LCD TV (with Freeview) and DVD player. Separate Dining room with sea views, dining table and chairs. Second downstairs bedroom with double bed, bedside tables and lamps and double wardrobe. Upstairs are two further bedrooms, one with double bed and one with 3' twin beds, both with sea views, wardrobes, bedside tables and lamps.

Following the end of our stay in Round Island, I am writing to thank you (and Trinity House) for having made this accommodation available to the RSPB at a discounted rate. the RSPB would not otherwise have been able to afford such accommodation. The location was perfect as it minimised travelling time for RSPB residential volunteers and staff when running the public wathpoint at Southerly Point and monitoring this and other chough nests. The high quality of the accommodation made our stay enjoyable and was certainly greatly appreciated during the early part of the season when we carried out night shifts as part of the round-the-clock watches on nests in sometimes very cold and wet conditions. We found Lisa very helpful, efficient and responsive to our sometimes unusual requests!

We had a wonderful week in this cottage last May half-term! Plenty of room for our two families (4 adults & 4 children). A very warm & comfortable house, and everything provided that we needed. The youngest child had prayed for fog as he wanted the foghorn to go off, which it did most nights! We shall certainly be back to Lizard Point.
